Teach A Child English Mission

Estimated at approximately 11 million, India has the world's largest population of children living in poverty on the streets. Relying on survival strategies and with no opportunities for play or school, these children are a particularly vulnerable group open to exploitation and extreme poverty. Learning English can open up a world of opportunities for these children. Our hope is to improve the physical and emotional well being of these children living on the street here and bring a smile back to their faces by showing them that someone cares.

Despite the fact that you can find English speakers throughout India, the standard of conversational English being taught in public schools is usually very poor. The students' may know about English and are better at grammar than most native-speakers, but they find their dialect hard to be understood and therefore lack the confidence to speak English. Without strong English, they miss out on higher salaried jobs that will go to those who can afford a private education.

With hopes of being in India for a 6 month mission, we aim to assist with English education and helping these kids have a future. We want to have enough sponsorship to provide food and shelter for these kids, also.
